Groton Community Dinners's primary goals are to provide a nutritious, delicious meal; create an opportunity for service to others; enhance connections and other affiliations; and promote environmental sustainability and support local businesses and farms as much as possible.
Groton Community Dinners began in May of 2009 as an effort to foster community in response to the financial crash in the fall of 2008. With many citizens in and around Groton losing their jobs and homes, people from all areas of Groton and the surrounding towns came together to form a community dinner program that would offer community spirit, nutritious food, and a celebratory atmosphere. Since that first dinner in May of 2009, GCD has been an active force in fostering community, understanding, an unity in our community.
The mission of the Groton Community Dinners is to foster community by offering a healthy, delicious meal for all, free of charge, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
We strive to include all community groups and individuals who wish to be a part of this effort. We firmly believe that, by working together on common goals, we can help heal our world.
